Denver is a great city to live in or visit because there are so many things to do. Colorado may be known for its ski slopes and mountain hiking, but those that might not be completely appropriate for a toddler.

If you’re planning on visiting Denver, these are my favorite places to take my toddler.

Downtown Aquarium

In the heart of downtown Denver, you should be sure to visit the Downtown Aquarium. You and your kids walk an underground path and view all kinds of underwater creatures. There is also a full restaurant for you to have lunch or dinner after your tour. There is also a tiger exhibit that my daughter loved. I’m not sure what a tiger has to do with sea creatures, but it was still fun! Be sure to catch the “Mystic Mermaids” show in the dining area.

Children’s Museum of Denver

The same parking lot that serves the Aquarium also serves the Children’s Museum. So this is a great opportunity to have an afternoon of fun and visit both attractions. There are SO MANY learning activities here at the Children’s Museum. The building is split into many areas with exhibits that teach kids about nature and science. My daughter’s favorite is always the Bubble exhibit.

Snack options: There is a snack area that serves healthy snacks and drinks but no full meals, so I suggest packing a picnic lunch and eating outdoors at their picnic tables.

Butterfly Pavilion

The Butterfly Pavilion has much more than butterflies to explore. It is located just north of Denver in Westminster, CO, it’s about an hour drive. There is a large building dedicated to all the butterflies. In the main building, there are exhibits with inserts, sea creatures and spiders.

Highlight: Be sure to visit Rosie the tarantula and even hold her!

The Denver Zoo

The zoo is always a winner in regards to places to take the toddler. There are indoor areas if the weather is bad, and lots of outdoor space to walk around. It’s also educational for the kiddos to learn about all different kinds of animals they don’t usually see.

Helpful hint: Bring a stroller or wagon and stock up on the snacks at home.

The Botanic Gardens

The Botanic Gardens in Denver are so beautiful and relaxing to walk through. It’s absolutely gorgeous. Your child can walk or run and learn about all the native plants and vegetation.

To do: Visit the website before you go to create a personalized virtual tour so you know exactly where you want to go when you get there.
