The Crayola Experience at Mall of America

This past weekend I traveled to the Mall of America for a travel blog conference. There were several fun activities and tours that we were able to attend, and one of the highlights for me was the Crayola® Experience tour inside the Mall of America.

I want to go back to the Mall of America with my kids, and I know one of my first stops would be the Crayola® Experience tour!

When you walk in they give you two tokens and send you loose to let your creativity shine! I love that the experience is go-at-your-own-pace. It’s the perfect environment to let creativity blossom.

Our first stop was the roll-your-own crayon station.

You choose which color crayon you want, and then it allows you to label the crayon. I have to say, when I brought my kids home crayons with their names on them they were thrilled. My sons draw dropped and he asked me how they knew his name. He felt so famous! I even made one for the blog!

Next, we got to do the “art alive” station. There were little screens that allowed you to color different fish or divers or create your own drawing.

When you are done,, you hit complete and it will appear on the big wall (behind me in the photo below) and swim around for a bit.

It was so cute to watch them swim around. Even cuter, was watching the kids see their art come to life and interact on the big screen. Adorable!

There was a playground inside, and even a modeling clay area.

Next, I visited the puzzle making booth. Kids can create their own drawings inside the box…

Then place the drawings in the machine and crank the handle…

When you are finished, the paper pops out the other side, with puzzle pieces ready to be popped out!

Another favorite station was the spin art! You choose two favorite crayon colors, and put them in to the machine one by one. The machine slowly melts them down while the paper spins.

You can control the speed of the spin with a lever.

I love the way mine turned out!

There was amazing artwork all over the walls. I especially loved the mural above showing how many colors were out each year.

Another way they let creativity come to life, was with the 3D coloring!

First you choose a sheet to color. Choose from a variety of male or female models, race cars or monster trucks!

When you finish coloring, you can take the paper up to be scanned. There’s lots of stations which meant no line, so kid-friendly! They turn your drawing into a 3D animation!

Then, you just watch and wait for yours to come on the big screen!

The cars looked amazing too!

While there was so much to do I can’t mention it all here, my very last stop was the make your own crayon mold. I chose to make a little car to bring home to my son. He loved it!

All in all the Crayola® experience was nothing short of amazing! I can’t wait to bring my kids. If you find yourself near the Mall of America, it’s a must for families!
