Road trips are awesome. There’s truly nothing like strapping yourself in a car with your closest friends or family members, and going on a trip together. I’ve found that it’s not always about the destination, the trip together is always the most memorable part.
That’s why we came up with the ultimate road trip game.
The great thing is, it doesn’t have to take up any extra room in the car!
Before you get started on the game, you have to pick up some awesome things for the trip. Sure, everyone will need a backpack of clothes, toiletries and other essentials, but we don’t need to worry about that stuff.
What you really need for your road trip awesomeness is:
- Good snacks
- Lots of Coca-Cola
- A notebook
Yep, that’s it! That’s all you really need.
For starters, run by Sam’s Club to stock up on drinks. The best ones are the new “share a Coca-cola and a song cans. You can get a 28 pack of Coca-Cola at Sam’s and it will help with your Ultimate Road Trip Game.
They all have one quick lyric on them, which makes for some fun road trip car karaoke. Pass a Coca-cola to some one and see if they can belt off the rest of the lyrics. So. Fun.
When you are thinking about getting ready for a road trip, start off by sending your friends invites. We made some fun invitations you can print off and use here.
If you notice, we didn’t fill in the road trip destination on the invitations, that’s because for your road trip game, you can’t have one!
Instead, as you play karaoke with the Coca-cola bottles, you’ll make choices about where you’re going. It’s a choose-your-own-road game with road trip songs!
When some one opens a new Coca-cola, they start the song, singing one line. Then, the person sitting next to them has to sing a line and the person next to them until the song is over or some one messes up. For each line you sing correctly add 10 minutes to your driving time on the current road. If some one misses a line or messes up a word, they choose to right or left. The song continues with the next person (or more turns!) until you reach the end of the song.
This is where the notebook will come in handy. Record driving times on roads and turns in the notebook so you can keep track of where you are going. Between songs and Coca-cola you can navigate as you wish, but only if you’ve completed all your written instructions from the last song.
And the other rule…no backtracking! The only way you can turn around is if you hit a dead end. Otherwise, see where the road takes you!
It’s fun to see where you end up. Maybe you’ll discover a new restaurant, or an out of the way historical spot. You never know what you’ll see on a road trip, and none more than a sing-along ultimate road trip with your friends!
If you don’t have time to spend a full week on the road, this would make a great day-trip activity too. Just shorten the time spent for correctly sung lyrics to 5 minutes to help you stay active throughout the day as you drive through your city to find new corners of it you might not have seen before.

How fun!! I’ve never even thought about doing a game like this before but it does sound super fun! Even just wandering through neighborhoods you’ve never visited before can be a great time!
