Travel is a fun time of life, but it can also be stressful. You are around more germs than normal, and depending on how you travel, it can mean all sorts of challenges to yours and your children’s health.
One thing that’s important to us when traveling is to keep our healthy routines in place.
For starters, I want to make sure the kids have enough vitamins to last them the trip. We head off to Walmart for this, since they are now carrying, Zarbees multivitamin gummies! My kids LOVE the gummies and I love that there is no high fructose corn syrup, no artificial flavors, colors, artificial sweeteners, and they are gluten free. Zarbee’s Naturals has a “Yummitment” Satisfaction Guarantee and they stand by it!
While on our trip, we want to make sure that the kids are getting the vitamins they need, an d Zarbee’s Naturals Kid’s Multivitamins is a huge way we do that. It’s formulated with 11 essential vitamins and sweetened with honey!
In addition to making sure my kid are getting the vitamins they need, I like to think about their food choices too. It’s easy to get stuck in the fast-food rut when traveling, especially with kids!
I think we’ve all been in the position to be hearing “M000-oooom I’m sooooo HUNGRY!” Coming from the backseat for the better part of an hour. At the end of that it’s all too easy to pull off at the closest hamburger place and load up with food that won’t be that good for the kids (or you!).
Instead, we recommend packing your snacks well. In addition to a daily vitamin, everyone gets a daily snack allotment. Maybe it’s fresh fruit you can bring in the car, or one of these healthy travel snacks you can make or buy before your trip. Which ever you choose, they are sure to hold the kids over until you can make a more intentional stop for a healthier meal along the way. Ps, here’s gluten free travel food choices.
In addition to healthier food while in route to wherever you’re going, you can also look for hotels that offer kitchens in them. This can really help you stay on track with your healthy lifestyle while on the go, because it will allow you to prepare your own meals.
If you can’t find a hotel like that, you could still bring along oatmeal for a healthier breakfast than what most continental breakfasts at a hotel would serve. You can heat water in the coffee pot and pour it over your oatmeal and top with fruit from downstairs at the continental breakfast! In just a few minutes you’ve prepared a healthier meal for your family to help everyone have a more fun, energy filled day!
Another huge component of a healthy travel lifestyle is exercise! It can be easy to fit exercise in as a part of your vacation days, if you simply are intentional about doing it! If you are going to the beach, before you set up your towels to lay out or read, take the kids on a walk along the beach collecting shells. Walking in the sand is a huge work out, pair that with bending down finding pretty shells and you’re set for the day!
You can also look for things like bike rentals in the town you’re visiting! Take a tour by pedal. It’s a great way to see a new place and it’s also a lot of exercise to keep you healthier and feeling your best!
Lastly, WATER. I can’t say it enough because I’m the one always forgetting it! Make sure you bring along plenty of water to stay hydrated. Our family rule is that we only have water and milk at home, but when we’re out and about the kids are allowed juice or the occasional soft drink. We do have to change this rule for vacations or it would be one big party of soft drinks and never any water! Make sure your kids are staying hydrated by having lots of water bottles to pass around during the day!
You can also make a “vacation rule” that no one can order a soft drink at a restaurant until they’ve finished a full glass of water (or two!). This will encourage your kids to drink water, while also letting them have treats on vacation!
Now, I know how expensive traveling can be, so I was excited with Zarbees said they were offering a HUGE discount for their children’s or toddler’s multivitamins!
